Measuring window sills correctly

Length of the window sill

Measure the clear distance between the window reveals on the left and right (from the left window cheek to the right window cheek) and subtract 8 mm on each side as an installation gap.

The length of the window sill can be a minimum of 10 cm and a maximum of 200 cm.

For window sill lengths of 200 cm and above, multi-part window sills are manufactured.

Width of the window sill

Version 1.

No free space under the window frame

Measure against the window frame, against which the window sill will be pushed during installation. Measure the distance to the front edge of the masonry. For the interior shell (without plaster), add 3.5 cm, so you will have an overhang of approx. 2 - 2.5 cm after plastering. If the plaster is present, simply add 2 - 2.5 cm.

Variant 2.

Free space under the window frame

Measure 1 cm under the window frame, under which the window sill will be pushed during installation. Measure the distance to the front edge of the masonry. For the interior shell (without plaster), add 3.5 cm, so you will have an overhang of approx. 2 - 2.5 cm after plastering. If the plaster is present, simply add 2 - 2.5 cm.

If you want a different overhang, add it.

For interior window sills, an overhang is not absolutely necessary, but for optical reasons it makes a big difference and is therefore recommended.

For external window sills , however, an overhang of at least 4.5 cm is required so that a drip edge can serve its purpose.

The width of the window sill can be a minimum of 5 cm up to a maximum of 200 cm in our configurator.

Edge processing

The processing (polishing or sanding) of the front edge, as well as the head left + right 6cm are included. If you want to install your window sill without any overhang at the front, please select the "Full head" option.

water groove

According to DIN, both water grooves are mandatory for plastered facades. The continuous water groove below is now also increasingly used on all other types of facades. The continuous water groove is milled near the front edge on the underside. The lateral water groove is milled on the top on the short sides of the window sill.

Notches

You can provide your window sill with notches on the back edge, then it will frame the masonry on the sides.

A notch is a useful element that simplifies the installation of window sills and can be used on both interior and exterior window sills. This makes the window sill appear to extend beyond the window reveal from the front and appear longer.
